MAS Spring Performance

Ava's last performance was a first for MAS. They put on their first musical, Alice in Wonderland. It was amazing to watch and very entertaining. It was obvious how hard the teachers and students worked this semester. Ava's class was the flowers and the Queens of Hearts, incorporating tap, jazz and ballet. We are so sad to be leaving this school, but have high hopes for Griffin to join in another year.

Easter Morning 2012

Playing Catch-up here.... The Easter Bunny was pretty generous this year and gave the kids a bucket and shovel filled with colored pens, writing tablets, bubble necklaces, bunny ears, a DVD and some candy. From the moment they woke up, they were ready for the big hunt to begin. We went over the rules and made sure to tell Ava that the easy to see eggs were intentionally placed so that Griffin could find some, as we know how good she is at finding eggs. She agreed :) Griffin, however, has it in his blood to enjoy the thrill and challenge of a good 'ol Easter egg hunt and found even the hardest of eggs. After we figured out how good he was, each and every egg was fair game!

Scarborough Faire Renaissance Festival

Last month we went for the opening weekend of Scarborough Faire, an annual Renaissance Festival that's held locally. It was quite the experience. We were all enamoured with the way the people were in character the entire time and just what a way of life it is for them. It's neat that they have found a way to interact with like-minded individuals and follow their passion of devoting their lifestyle to a certain era. It was enormous in size, acres upon acres, and had everything from jousting to architecture emulating buildings past, and simple machinery inventions (think swing) to accents and situational dialogue. Ava didn't quite know how to respond to them when they'd talk to her with an English accent. She was crowned May Pole Queen, however, and enjoyed that. Griffin loved the petting zoo and talks about it still. There was a goat that sounded similar to a cow and he just couldn't process how a goat could moo.....by George, I think I've found the idea for the next great children's book! We attempted to ride an elephant, but Griffin was having none of it, so he and Ryan didn't ride.

Hospital Bound (not really)

These two are Kuh-ray-zee! Enjoying water time in the relatively hot temps, just anticipating summer (and all its injuries), Aves and Griff decided to take some plunges. I'll say.

DIY Silly Putty.....SO MUCH FUN!

Found this on Pinterest and it was easy and so fun! Ava really enjoyed making it and once Griffin woke up, they both (okay, WE ALL) had tons of fun with this sensory play activity.

Big Boy Potty

Griffin got a potty for Christmas that he uses off and on, mostly when we remember. He has been interested in going to the potty for several months now, but we just let him tell us or ask and see what he says. It's usually "yeah" because he loves to clap for himself and feels so proud.

So now that we are dealing with different, um, "parts" with him than with Ava, it's been a bit more challenging to find a way to keep the pee IN the potty. Well, Griff solved that one for us and I caught him in action the other day.

It's Time for Water Play Already?

Children's Museum and Grossology

Last week we went to the Children's Museum with our friends Bonnie, Audrey and Lincoln. I met Bonnie through a message board that we belong to and it just so happens that we have the same age and gender kids. They recently moved closer to us and ironically, Ava and Audrey were pen pals last year when they lived farther away. These girls love to hang out and get along really well. And Griffin and Lincoln are the wild boys!

The museum was AMAZING and we could have stayed there much longer. There were so many neat exhibits; sound, color, dinosaurs, music, planetarium, community, animals, water play, 3D theatre, Texas and grossology.

Grossology was Ava's favorite as it was a way to learn about all the gross things our bodies do; pass gas, throw up, smells, zits, digestion, etc.

We took advantage for a later afternoon planetarium show about the Solar System so the boys could rest/nap. Griffin was OUT within a minute of the show and Ava listened and loved it.
